In the poem “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer she describes a single thought, “I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree”. This thought seems simple and to the point but the underlying message is inevitable, I mean come on its poetry! The poem begins to talk about how a tree always looks up and is always thankful for its blessing such as rain, snow, and robins in the summer. The poem explains that a tree is always thankful and will never take more than it needs. Comparing a tree to a poem is quite a stretch but a poem will always have different meanings to different people whereas a tree will always do the same thing and be strong and concise with its actions and never forget who gave it the life that it is so often thankful for. In the poem it discusses the trees and the loving and nurturing mother that makes them strong and feeds them every day. This another connection to what some would view as a god Mother Earth. In return for the great care the earth provides the trees help shelter other creatures and take them under their wing just has mother earth has done for them. A tree the thirst for knowledge is unquenchable that’s why they live for such a long period of time and even after those many years they still praise. The world's oldest known tree is called Methuselah it was said to be 4,845 years old, this tree alone has even lived before the roman Empire and the rise of Christianity. Imagine the knowledge is must have obtained with all of that time. Trees are amazing and lend themselves to the betterment of the world as a whole but get a little satisfaction along the way.

"Dwelling in the moment " by Dick Allen, is a short poem describing the beauty of nature and the lone beauty of virgin ground. The poem seems to be describing a picture and the utter alienation that a individual would fell to live in seclusion. To dwell in a moment means too enjoy everything for what it is. The grass around the cabin took time to grow as did the nature around it. The mountain in the back group is a product of colliding tectonic plates and the wonders of nature. Too enjoy these wonders and the time they took to get there one must stop and behold to wonders that are set before them. The small brushstroke just symbolize the amazing acts of nature and the small detail found in nature itself. The beauty of nature is unmatched and indescribable. I think Allen really was tired of seeing the earth being disrespected. He was tired of all the trash and pollution that seems to all ways be evident and just wanted to remember a untouched and beautiful world. A world where man had not imposed his will and was just as beautiful as in his dreams. In conclusion, the poem is about a better world, a cleaner world. My final thoughts would have to be that the beauty of the earth is always present but is constantly affected by the virus that in Humans. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/browse?contentId=36847
"Another Knowledge" by Dick Allen, Starts off as if it's summer vacation and the writer is just trying to get over a lover. The one thing I saw throughout the whole poem was the feeling of almost an impending fear of the lover coming back. To me is seems as if the writer is trying to forget about the lover and every time they go to sleep they're greeted by them in their dreams. This only curses the writer as time goes by and it makes their past lover even harder to forget. I think this might be a view on love from Allen. From the past poems I think that Allen is a follower of god and I think this is his view on marriage. It should never be broken and if it is you will never be able to forget the first love almost as if it was a curse. I think although this person can never forget they still try too and this is Allen's way of showing the pain and ultimately unbreakable bond you can build with someone. The writer seems to be trying to escape, which is the reason why they're on vacation. Still they can only dream about their past love. I know this seems repetitive but that's I just want to get my point across and connect how much stress I think Allen puts on this subject. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/browse?contentId=42338
"High Horses", a poem by Dick Allen describes a very majestic group of horses that live above all and seem to be ridden by gods. I felt as if this poem is referring to Allen's view of the after life. I think the horses are what he uses as a metaphor that takes you to your judgment day. This horse is lustrous and grand that whoever comes in contact with it is amazed by the sight. The horse is well kept and presents a heavenly fell as if that's his sole purpose to bring people to heaven. At the end of the poem when is says, "little men of the past" it makes me feel as if they have already passed away and are being taken to heaven in their very nice and bright clothes. I really think Allen is just trying to give a little light to his religion and make the reader think about what this could be in their own mind. This is why I think he put very little detail. I would agree that he put in enough detail to give you the picture but nothing else it seems that he leaves the door wide open for the reader to twist and turn it whatever way their heart desires. This is one of the reasons I chose Allen, he seem to let the reader come up with the story and idea on their own but he somehow leads you in a specific direction. In conclusion I think this poem is just a little light at the end of the tunnel Allen wants us too see. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/browse?contentId=41466
"Texas Prison Town" , is a poem the puts a spotlight on my things. The poem begins by talking about death row inmates and their final meal. It show what superiority the prison has over the inmates by choosing their food and limiting them to a $20 maximum. This is a very foreign idea to me since the death penalty is banned in many states. The whole idea behind this story in my mind is the fact that the prison runs the town if your a inmate or not. In my opinion the death penalty in both positive and negative, I believe this because it takes a very bad person off this earth but, the act of killing a man in any way is just wrong. The fact that the prison set a limit on the amount of money the prisoner could spent is unbelievable. This man or women is about to go meet their maker because of something they did but, don't you think you should make even the last few minutes of their life at least a little enjoyable. This is cruel, that person no matter what they did is a human being and deserve at least a little respect. Now that I think about it the prison is selling their lives for $20. This is all they are worth to the prison and that is just inhumane. The fact that this town lives under this tyrannical rule is unsettling and rather revolting. I really question the sanity of the warded and his inmates. This line where he writes, "and allow you a cigarette, maybe........The last 300 miles". The warden literally and figuratively rules this town and everything in it. This exemplifies a tyrannical ruler that cares not about their people. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/browse?contentId=33488
"The Afterlife", by Dick Allen is a poem set in a heavenly place where souls find their love after death. The poem begins with an individual saying that he was at the end of a journey, was the journey life? Allen, describes the sights and sounds he experiences when he finally comes too. The beginning is a gentle and relaxing place when all things are calm. After a long night, he finds his past lover. He remembers his lover and the both regain the feeling of love. This leads to the blood(life) rushing back into their cold and dead bodies. The love they shared alone survived even the biggest boundary, death. As they continue they build a shelter and create a new life together. They relearn everything about one another until their love is full again. As they share their past life, the man remembers the loved they shared in life. In the poem I feel that this is the view Allen has on the afterlife. He believes that love will prevail and if love is true it will never reach an end. The poem shows how Allen thinks of heaven as a peaceful and beautiful place, where if your love was true it will be restored. Also, you will be granted the gift of remembrance when the love you share is fully restored to its past status. This is the gift I think heaven gives, it allows you to spend the rest of eternity with your one true love and that's what I think Allen's goal was in this poem. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems-and-poets/poems/detail/51841 The Accompanist, by DIck Allen is a very vexing poem. This poem is very compassionate and loving towards all peoples. It shows the love we should have for all people even if what you think their accomplishment is insignificant. It's also shows the view of the audience and how it will always depend on the singer not the individual. When this poem was written it had a single idea in mind. It played out through a very simple scenario that wouldn't raise and eyebrow. Once I looked deeper into the poem I realized that its purpose is to give credit where credit is due. This poem highlights the people that make it all happen and never get in the spotlight. It shows how talented an individual can be and just be forgotten. This is why I found The Accompanist so interesting.
